Tired of hauling your redeemable cans around and feeding them into a machine, only to get sticky, and get a couple of bucks for your effort?  Lighten your load by donating your cans to us AND help the community at the same time!  The Milwaukie Lions Club Foundation will be holding a can and bottle drive on Saturday, September 7th in the parking lot at the former Bomber Restaurant on McLoughlin Boulevard from 9am to 1pm.  The club is also collecting school supplies to support several local elementary schools.

The funds from this bottle drive will support the club's Adopt-a-School project, which provides three Milwaukie elementary schools with much needed supplies throughout the school year.  While collecting bottles and cans, the club will also be accepting school supply donations.  While all items are welcome, the following is a suggested list:   spiral notebooks (70 sheets); Crayola Crayons (16 or 24 count); Glue sticks; Pink pearl erasers; Scissors (pointed and/or blunt); 12” rulers; Ticonderoga pencils (12 or 18 count); Colored pencils (12 or 24 count); Pocket folders; and Crayola watercolors paints (8 count).

“Milwaukie Lions has been a proud supporter of the Backpack Buddy program at Oak Grove Elementary school for over 15 years.  Food insecurity today is rampant, and backpack buddies is one way to insure the students are cared for over the weekend and ready for school Monday morning!" says Peggy Costanzo, current club President of the Milwaukie Lions.

Club members are willing to pick up donated bottles and cans.  Our club member Tom Hammond is coordinating this effort and can be reached at 503-593-8859.

For more information about our projects and Lions membership, please stop by and talk with some of our club members in the Bomber parking lot on September 7th.

ABOUT

The Milwaukie Lions Club has been active in supporting citizens of Milwaukie and North Clackamas County since 1948.  While Lions as an international organization primarily focuses on sight and hearing programs, our club does more than just provide exams, eye glasses and hearing aids to those less fortunate in our community.   The Milwaukie Lions Club supports our local schools by providing needed supplies to classrooms and coordinates a Backpack Buddy program at a local elementary school.  The club also undertakes a Holiday Food Drive that provides food boxes to more than 500 local families, in addition to many other activities and service projects throughout the year.   The club is always looking for potential new members who want to give back to their community.
