State to hold July 23 town hall meeting on possible lake closures in Lake County  - 07/11/18

Community encouraged to attend

ADEL, Ore. – The Oregon Department of State Lands (DSL) will hold a town hall meeting in Adel on Monday, July 23 regarding the possible closure of Hart, Crump and Goose lakes should the lakes dry up.

DSL may consider closure of the dry lakebeds to protect natural, historical, cultural and archaeological resources.Previous closures occurred in 2014 and 2015 when drought and receding water levels exposed cultural artifacts and burial sites.

The meeting is an opportunity to share recommendations and concerns regarding possible lake closures. DSL Director Vicki Walker, State Representative Lynn Findley, Oregon State Police representatives, and DSL staff will be present.

Town Hall Meeting
Monday, July 23
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

About the State Land Board and the Department of State Lands
The State Land Board consists of Governor Kate Brown, Secretary of State Dennis Richardson and State Treasurer Tobias Read. The Department of State Lands administers diverse natural and fiscal resources. Many of the resources generate revenue for the Common School Fund, such as state-owned rangelands and timberlands, waterway leases, estates for which no will or heirs exist, and unclaimed property. Twice a year, the agency distributes fund investment earnings to support K-12 public schools. The agency also administers Oregon’s Removal-Fill Law, which requires people removing or filling certain amounts of material in waters of the state to obtain a permit.
