Initial damage to bridge girders
Initial damage to bridge girders
I-84 Exit 164 overpass bridge (Boardman) now open to two-way traffic (Photo) - 02/13/18

The Interstate 84 Exit 164 overpass bridge in Boardman was open to two-way traffic yesterday morning around 10 a.m. An eastbound freeway lane restrictions under the bridge was also removed around 3 p.m. The over pass bridge that connects the north and south sides of Boardman over the freeway had been restricted to one lane with 24-hour flaggers controlling traffic since February 5, when several bridge girders on the underside of structure were struck and damaged by an over-height load travel along the eastbound freeway. The eastbound freeway lane closure was needed to facilitate repair work. Oregon Department of Transportation bridge crew members chipped out the damaged concrete, constructed forms around the girder sections and pumped new material into the forms to complete the repair job. The traffic restrictions were lifted after final inspections of the repairs were made yesterday.
