Oregon City Police Arrest Nurse In Child Abuse Case Involving One Year Old (Photo)

On September 18, 2026, the Oregon City Police Department, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), began investigating a report of physical abuse involving a one‑year‑old child. The investigation was initiated after suspicious injuries were observed on the child. The child had several complex medical conditions which required an in-home caregiver.
During the investigation, it was determined that the child’s caregiver, 33-year-old Devante Jermaine Hamilton, had physically abused the child on numerous occasions during the span of several months. Mr. Hamilton, a registered nurse in Oregon, had been employed as the child’s in‑home nurse practitioner and was taken into custody by Oregon City Police Detectives on September 24, 2026.
Mr. Hamilton was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:
- Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree
- Assault in the Third Degree
- Harassment
- Menacing
Mr. Hamilton has worked in various healthcare-related environments and with vulnerable patients.
