From August 25th to September 6th the Oregon City Police Department participated in a Safety Belt Enforcement Grant. With grant funds from the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact, officers conducted extra enforcement patrols specifically targeting motorists not wearing their safety belt. The primary focus of these patrols was to educate drivers and help raise awareness on the dangers of not wearing a safety belt.
During the grant period, our officers worked various shifts during the day and stopped 68 motorists. During these shifts, officers wrote a total of 86 violations and gave 30 warnings. The violations included 12 citations issued for not wearing a safety belt, 20 citations issued for speeding, 4 citations issued for driving while suspended, 10 citations issued for operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile electronic device and 40 other various violations. Of the 30 warnings, 3 were given for not wearing a safety belt, 2 were given for speeding, and 25 were given for other various violations.
The Oregon City Police Department wants to remind everyone to wear their safety belt when operating a motor vehicle.
