News Release

New Avenues For Youth 10th Annual Scoop-A-Thon To Prevent Youth Homelessness (Photo) -06/24/21

PORTLAND, Ore. – 6.24.2021 On Wednesday, July 7th, local nonprofit New Avenues for Youth will hold their 10th annual Scoop-a-thon, with all proceeds helping fund their programs for youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.

In effort to provide tangible job training skills, New Avenues operates two social purpose enterprises in the Portland Area. Their screen-printing shop, New Avenues INK, has been printing high-quality items for businesses and individuals in our community for more than 7 years providing internships to young people and their Ben & Jerry’s Partnershop on Yamhill opened its doors in 2004, where hundreds of young people gained skills through this opportunity.

In a pandemic year, they had the opportunity to look at this annual event differently, and engage community supporters in safe ways to raise awareness and funds for New Avenues for Youth’s programs and services. To maintain safety both for guests and youth participants they are unable to invite sponsors to scoop ice cream on this day, but are inviting the community to harness the power of social media and connections to spread the word about these amazing social enterprises.

Special thanks to this year’s sponsors, Lucky Transportation, Perkins and Co, KGW Media Group, Howard S. Wright, New Seasons Markets, R&H Construction, Campbell Global, and Portland Pearl Rotary Club, and Swinerton!
