Eugene Area Credit Unions to Make Generous Contribution to Peacehealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend - 03/12/18

EUGENE, OR. ---Local credit unions will bring some cheer to young patients at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend today. A toy-filled Radio Flyer Wagon, and a cash contribution of more than $24,000 will be delivered by a delegation from credit unions which helped raise funds at the Northwest Credit Union Association's (NWCUA) Run for the Roses Auction, at its annual MAXX Convention last fall.

The auction is an important tradition for Northwest credit unions, as they are the original founders of the now-national Credit Unions for Kids charity. "CU4Kids" is a leading fundraiser for 170 Children's Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals nationwide and is responsible for nearly $200 million in contributions.

Since founding the charity in the Northwest in 1986, the region's credit unions have contributed millions to fund research, medical supplies, and patient care to their area CMN hospitals.

Mandy Jones, CEO of Eugene-based Oregon Community Credit Union, is a long-time supporter of the cause.

"Our commitment to CU4Kids and supporting CMN Hospitals is important to us," said Jones. "We believe that kids and families deserve not only the best care possible, but also some bright spots to make them smile when they are going through treatments and procedures. These funds can help CMN do just that."

Echoing the importance of cheer in helping a sick child to recover is John Iglesias, President and CEO of Eugene-based Northwest Community Credit Union.

"The ability for a child to recover comfortably with their favorite toys helps to keep their spirit positive, and is known to speed up the recovery process," Iglesias said. "Northwest Community Credit Union is pleased to make this gift to Credit Unions for Kids, in honor of their dedication to caring for the most vulnerable young children and their families as they receive important treatment."

In addition to Oregon Community CU and Northwest Community CU, other credit unions supporting today's contribution include: SELCO Community Credit Union, Eugene; Linn-CO Federal Credit Union, Lebanon; and Oregon State Credit Union, Corvallis.
