Winter Storm Update - City Of Newport Recreation Center Open As Emergency Shelter -01/15/24
The City of Newport has opened the Recreation Center for those needing shelter. The City is anticipating keeping the Recreation Center shelter site going for at least the next 24 hours. Please contact the Lincoln County emergency resource phone line at 541-265-0621, for shelter arrangements or other general needs related to the emergency.
Power has been restored to the Agate Beach substation. This impacts the service area generally north of NW 15 street. There are still local outages throughout the City and PUD service areas. The extent of problems from downed distribution limes will be known as service is brought up to customers in those locations.
Oceanview Assisted Living has been without power since Saturday, and has made alternative location arrangements for residents.
The Newport Police have created an inventory of problem areas, and Newport Public Works is continuing today to remove debris from streets. The City has contracted with Oregon Coast Tree Company to assist with cleanup of street areas/debris removal.
Newport Wastewater Collection crews are monitoring and servicing wastewater lift stations, in those areas without power. Power has been restored to the Newport Water Treatment plant remains operable, and various water pressure booster stations are on standby power.
The City has had discussions with Thompson Sanitation regarding a woody debris collection site which would allow drop off woody debris at no cost to residents. It is expected more information will be forthcoming later this week.
