News Release
Apartment Fire - 12/14/18

 At 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2018, Newport Fire Department was dispatched to smoke in an apartment at the 600 block of SW 6th Street. First in fire department units initially could only detect an odor of smoke.
After a thorough search of the building, crews were able find a small fire in another apartment unit in the same building. The fire damaged a bathroom and filled the unit with smoke. After extinguishing the fire, crews ventilated the smoke from the unit. There were no injuries reported.
Newport Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from Depoe Bay Fire District and Toledo Fire Department. Newport Police Department, and Pacific West Ambulance also helped on scene. Newport Fire Department responded with a fire engine, one rescue, one chief officer and 12 firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Newport Fire Department reminds everyone to test your smoke detectors regularly and have a home escape plan.
