Traffic Crash - 07/10/18

On July 9, 2018, at 9:11am, Newport Police and Fire responded to a traffic crash involving a signle vehicle into a utility pole on Hwy 101 at NE 11th St.  

Officers arrived and found the driver, Michael Justice Jr., 28, of Siletz, slumped over in the driver's seat.  Justice showed signs of impairment, which was determined to be from recent drug use.  Justice Jr. was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.

The investigation showed that Justice Jr. was traveling south on Hwy 101 at a high rate of speed.  Justice Jr. lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole on the south side of the intersection at Hwy 101/NE 11th St.  The pole was serverly damaged and later replaced by a utility company.

Justice Jr. was issued citations for DUII, Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief I, DWS-Violation, and Fail to Drive Within Lane.

One lane of southbound Hwy 101 was closed for 40 minutes while the crash was investigated and the scene secured.
