On October 3rd, 2023, just before 7pm, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department responded to the scene of a plane crash on Cedar Street in Newberg. NDPD worked with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue to secure the scene and began rescue efforts. Unfortunately, Barrett Bevacqua (20 years old of Hillsboro), and Michele Cavallotti (22 years old of Hillsboro), were discovered deceased within the aircraft. Cavallotti was an instructor with the Hillsboro Aero Academy and Bevacqua was a student pilot. A third occupant of the plane, Emily Hurd (20 years old of Hillsboro), was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries. No one on the ground where the plane crashed was injured.
NDPD is partnering with the Yamhill County Medical Examiner and District Attorney’s Office to determine a precise cause of death. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have taken over the investigation related to the cause of the crash.
