North Clackamas School Board Approves Levy Renewal For November 2023 Ballot - 06/09/23

News Release from North Clackamas School District

June 9, 2023

At last night's (June 8, 2023) regularly scheduled meeting, the North Clackamas School Board of Directors voted to refer a five-year local option levy renewal to the November ballot in support of North Clackamas schools.

The levy would continue the one passed by voters in 2018, which has funded approximately 180 teaching positions each year throughout the school district without increasing existing taxes.

A renewal of the 2018 Teachers Levy would allow NCSD schools to continue funding one of their most important resources: their amazing teaching staff, which includes the 2022 Oregon Teacher of the Year, the 2023 Oregon Regional Teacher of the Year, and most recently, the 2023 Oregon PTA Teacher of the Year!

If passed, the Teachers Levy renewal will not initiate any new taxes.  It will continue to tax property owners in the North Clackamas School District boundaries the same $1.63 per every $1,000 of assessed property value currently paid by residents.

When the current levy ends in June, 2024, it would also end $19.7 million in funds that equivalently pay for one in every five district teaching positions.  Without these teachers, NCSD schools would face the devastating dilemma of how to continue empowering, inspiring, and growing its nearly 17,000 students with fewer teachers and higher class sizes.

The election will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Additional information about the Teachers Levy renewal, including a map of how many teaching positions at each NCSD school depend on levy funds, is available on the NCSD website (https://www.nclack.k12.or.us/departments/community-engagement/community-link).
