News Release
NCSD Names New High School after Justice Adrienne C. Nelson - 05/10/19

Milwaukie, OR (May 10, 2019) – North Clackamas Schools (NCSD) Superintendent Matt Utterback is proud to announce that at last night’s meeting, the School Board selected “Adrienne C. Nelson” as the name of NCSD’s newest neighborhood high school. The school is named in honor of Oregon Supreme Court Justice, Adrienne C. Nelson. Funded by the 2016 Capital Construction Bond, the school is scheduled to open in August 2021 following the conversion of Rock Creek Middle School.

Raised in Arkansas, Justice Nelson moved to Oregon in 1993, and prior to serving on the Supreme Court, served on the Multnomah County Circuit Court, among other accomplishments. Justice Nelson’s professional and personal history is characterized by advocating for those who are marginalized, and inspiring people to strive for their best, no matter their circumstances or demographics.

“I’m thrilled the School Board voted to name our new high school after Justice Nelson. Her commitment to uplifting individuals and communities, along with her personal integrity reflect all that we want for our high school students. The process for naming this school was emotional, and prompted difficult, but necessary conversations within our community. In the end, the School Board selected the name of a remarkable person and resident of our district,” stated Superintendent Utterback.

Construction on the Rock Creek Middle School campus for conversion to Adrienne C. Nelson High School will begin this June.
