News Release
North Clackamas Voters Approve Local Option Levy - 11/07/18

Milwaukie, OR (November 6, 2018)—North Clackamas School District (NCSD) is grateful for the support North Clackamas voters demonstrated by passing Measure 3-541. NCSD will now benefit from a five-year property tax levy, which will provide the district with essential operating funds. The proceeds from this measure will be used to preserve teaching positions and a full school year.

Had Measure 3-541 failed, NCSD would have had to eliminate up to 170 teaching positions, or shorten the school calendar by 34 days in order to close an expected $17M operating shortfall starting in 2019-2020. The projected shortfall is due to inadequate state funding for K-12 education. The passage of Measure 3-541 means such reductions in staffing and school days will not be needed.

NCSD Board Chair, Lee Merrick stated, “The Board of Directors greatly appreciates the individuals and organizations that supported Measure 3-541. Their efforts resulted in our community deciding to support high-quality education.” The passage of Measure 3-541 follows the approval of a $433M Capital Construction Bond in 2016, which is funding the construction, modernization, and expansion of schools throughout the district. “Once again, North Clackamas voters have shown an appreciation for the hard work done by NCSD’s staff, our families, and community partners that helps our students develop the skills needed for long-term success. NCSD’s attention now turns to Oregon’s Legislature and Governor to ensure they adequately fund K-12 per the Quality Education Model,” stated Superintendent, Matt Utterback.

Following the levy’s passage, NCSD will now finalize the promised accountability and transparency mechanisms needed to ensure levy proceeds are allocated in a manner consistent with the community’s expectations.

NCSD is an award-winning district that prepares students who are inspired and empowered to strengthen the quality of life in our local and global communities. More information about NCSD is available at www.nclack.k12.or.us.
