North Clackamas Schools Hosts Governor Brown -04/09/18
Kindergarten Readiness and Career Technical Programs Visited
North Clackamas School District (NCSD) was pleased to host Oregon Governor Kate Brown, who visited two programs that illustrate NCSD’s commitment to meeting the needs of each student in order to prepare them for the demands of college, career, and life.
First, Governor Brown visited Bilquist Elementary, where she met with students, staff, community partners, and others, to learn about “Ready, Set, Go!” (RSG), which is a free program designed to help 3-5 year olds and their parents/guardians successfully prepare for kindergarten. Offered in partnership with Metropolitan Family Service, the North Clackamas Education Foundation, and the Clackamas Early Learning Hub, RSG is available in both English and Spanish.
Governor Brown concluded her visit by touring the Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center, which houses NCSD’s 17 career and technical programs that are available to all NCSD high school students. Governor Brown met with students to hear their stories about how high-quality career and technical education was instrumental in increasing their engagement in school, and preparing them for success after graduation. Governor Brown visited the Fire Science, Manufacturing and Engineering, and Culinary Arts programs.
