What is GUMI CAMP USA? "A healing retreat for American Veterans"!!
GUMI CAMP is a six-month healing retreat for American Veterans. (GUMI stands for Glad U Made It). We believe hand up approach is the best way! While in the program, the Veteran Participant gets paid weekly for helping at the camp which includes walking and feeding dogs and horses, gathering eggs from the chickens, and attending to the other animals which provides daily animal interaction which can serve as “therapy” along the way. They also are given a puppy that they take care of, and it stays with them for six months and for life if they desire.
Also, the participant is helped with setting goals that are relevant to their values and priorities, reconnecting to family and loved ones including spouses, ex-spouses, children and/or parents and others, attending weekly support groups and has access to a counselor weekly according to their individual needs. Though the six-month program costs over $40k per Veteran, we have a 70% success rate! In conjunction with the University of Rhode Island, the VA included GUMI in a recent 16-week study. They were amazed at how the hand up and “never alone” approach has such a high success rate. We just graduated our 53rd Veteran a few months ago at GUMI CAMP! GUMI Missouri consists of 258 acres and is located at 267 Mo Ark Road, Cedarcreek, MO 65627. If you can’t attend the concert, but would still love to help the Camp function, please send donation to GUMI Camp, PO Box 542, Barnson, MO 65615. For a 100% write off, make the check payable to New Horizons Foundation. In the memo of the check, write GUMI Camp project. Go to gumicampusa.com for more details.
Refreshments will be served in the basement after the program.
No Admission Fee. Donations are Welcome. Wheelchair accessible.
