MULTNOMAH COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS PRISON FOR 2024 KILLING ON MAX TRAIN PLATFORM

Portland, OR- Moyasar Osman Mohamed-Ahmed, 31-years old, was sentenced to 22 years prison on September 3, 2026.
The defendant pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon- With a Firearm.
Senior Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Brian Davidson prosecuted the case for the state.
After the plea and sentencing he said: “This sort of violence has no place in our community. Our office will aggressively prosecute those who hurt others. We are also sending out the message that crime in and around the TriMet system will not be tolerated.”
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office would like to thank Portland Police Bureau Detective Billy Winters for his excellent work on this case.
We would also like to highlight the work of the MCDA Victim Advocates who gave comfort and care to the victims affected by this case.
The Facts:
On June 27, 2024 Sean Smeeden was at the Max train platform at North Interstate Avenue and Prescott Street. Sometime around 8:30pm he encountered Moyasar Osman Mohamed-Ahmed. The two argued and Mohamed-Ahmed pulled out a gun but did not fire it. The two separated but later Mohamed-Ahmed returned, pulled out the gun again and shot the victim, Sean Smeeden who died at the scene.
The incident was captured by TriMet Security cameras.
