News Release

PORTLAND MAN FOUND GUILTY IN CONNECTION TO DEATH OF HIS ROMANTIC PARTNER AND MOVING HER BODY AFTERWARD. - 09/04/26

 

CASE: 24CR06379                                                                                                          September 4, 2026

 

Portland, OR-Jon Pharris Ray French, 35-years-old, today pleaded No Contest in Multnomah County Circuit Court to the charge of Manslaughter in the First Degree and Guilty to Abuse of a Corpse in the Second Degree.

The pleas came in connection with the death of the defendant’s romantic partner Jeannie Enyeart who disappeared in January of 2024.

Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Todd Jackson and Deputy District Attorney Ryan Solomon handled the case for the state. 

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Detail and specifically Detectives Brent Christensen and Scott Broughton for their outstanding work on this case. 

The DA’s Office would also like to recognize the work of MCDA Victim Advocates who  provided care and support for the victim’s family in this case.

 

The Facts:

On January 29, 2024 Jeannie Enyeart’s son reported her missing to the Portland Police because he was worried he had not been able to reach her. He said it was quite unusual that he could not get through to her on her cell phone for such a long time.

When police contacted the defendant, he claimed that he’d seen the victim the day before and that her car should be in the driveway of the home they shared in Portland. 

Instead, the car had crashed into a snowbank on a rural road near the town of Stevenson in Washington State.

An investigator contacted the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and learned that the car had been towed from the crash site  and that the defendant had been driving the vehicle when it crashed.  Investigators searched  the car and found Ms. Enyeart’s body in the backseat under a moving blanket and several other items. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was blunt trauma to the neck. The manner of death was homicide.

On February 5, 2024, police arrested Jon Pharris Ray French for the death of Jeannie Enyeart.

Sentencing is set for September 14, 2026 at 10am in front of Judge Jenna Plank in courtroom 13B.
