PORTLAND AREA TRAILER THIEF PLEADS GUILTY AND FACES PRISON TERM - 08/11/26

Portland, OR-Nickolas Alexander Edwards, 35-years-old, will go to prison after being convicted of stealing multiple cargo trailers from around the greater Portland area. Some of the thefts took place while he was wearing a pre-trial release ankle monitor from a previous arrest in Clark County.

Edwards pleaded guilty to the following charges:

 

Case 25CR17473 Count 1 Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle

 

Case 25CR23196 Count 1 Aggravated Theft

 

Case 26CR03023 Count 1 Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle

                                       Count 4 Felony Elude

                                       Count 7 Recklessly Endangering Another Person

                                        Count 8 Recklessly Endangering Another Person

 

Case 26CR03172 Count 1 Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle

                                       Count 4 Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle

 

The defendant has also stipulated to pay a total of $30,874 in restitution to a variety of victims.

Sentencing was set over until August 13, 2026, but the defendant has agreed to a term of 84 months (7-years) in prison.

 

Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Cody Linderholm prosecuted the cases for the state. After the guilty plea he said:

“We don’t see a lot of sole trailer thieves in this county but its property crime and it's important to this community that this person is held accountable. Theft like this directly affects livability issues. Our office takes that seriously. Getting a resolution like this with somebody who was so prolific lets the county know we are here. We are going to take property crime seriously. We know this type of crime impacts people and their livelihoods and we are not going to stand for that.”

 

THE FACTS:

The defendant is a trailer prolific cargo trailer thief. He has past cases that range from Multnomah County to Clackamas County, Marion County and north to Clark County, Washington.

In late 2025, investigators noticed a spike in reported trailer thefts in the Portland area. A Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office investigator began looking into the cases. The defendant was wearing a GPS monitor from an earlier arrest in Clark County. That made it relatively easy for the investigator to place him at more recent trailer thefts in Multnomah County.
