James Chasteen Sentenced To 25 Years In Prison In Jessica's Law Case -08/29/23

Yesterday, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Dailey sentenced James Chasteen, 52, to 25 years in prison. The sentence follows an April 14th verdict where a 12-person jury found Chasteen guilty of 11 counts of sexually abusing a minor. This case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Melissa Marrero. Chasteen is currently in custody at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail and will be transported to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.

DA Mike Schmidt Announces Guilty Verdict for James Chasteen in Jessica's Law Case
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt today announced that a Multnomah County jury found James Chasteen, 52, guilty on 11 counts related to the sexual abuse of a minor:
- Three counts of Rape in the First Degree (Victim Under 12)
- Seven counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree
- One count of Luring a Minor
The trial took place in front of Senior Judge Kathleen Dailey from March 27 to April 14, 2023. The 12-person jury delivered the verdict on Friday. Chasteen is currently in custody and will be sentenced by Judge Dailey at a later date. Under Jessica’s Law, Chasteen faces a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison for each rape conviction.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Melissa Marrero is the prosecutor assigned to this case. Chasteen is represented by Grant Hartley, Sean Lo, and Rosie Acorn-Rubenstein of Metropolitan Public Defender.
