Superseding indictment alleging five separate criminal episodes filed against Mitchell Beckwith
Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced that a 38-count superseding indictment was filed against 27-year-old Mitchell Beckwith.
The new indictment charges Beckwith with four counts of kidnapping in the first degree, five counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, three counts of strangulation, eight counts of sodomy in the first degree, seven counts of rape in the first degree, two counts of promoting prostitution, one count of compelling prostitution, one count of theft in the third degree, one count of identity theft, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, one count of menacing, two counts of unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree, one count of coercion and one count of theft in the first degree.
The superseding indictment identifies four victims.
According to the new indictment:
- On November 18, 2017, Beckwith raped, sexually abused and performed other sex acts unlawfully against an adult female and that during the alleged criminal conduct he stole property from that victim;
- On July 12, 2018, Beckwith kidnapped, raped, sexually abused and performed other sex acts unlawfully against a separate adult female and that during the alleged criminal conduct he strangled her, unlawfully used a weapon and put her in fear of imminent serious physical injury;
- On June 5, 2019, Beckwith raped, sexually abused and performed other sex acts against a separate adult female;
- On July 12, 2019, Beckwith sexually abused, attempted to rape and performed other sex acts against the same victim from the June 5 alleged incident, and that during the alleged criminal conduct on July 12 he instilled fear in the victim, strangled her and stole her property, which was valued at $1,000 or more;
- On November 16, 2019, Beckwith kidnapped, raped, sexually abused and performed other sex acts unlawfully against a separate adult female and that during the alleged criminal conduct he strangled her and used force in an attempt to have her engage in conduct indicative of human sex trafficking.
All of the alleged conduct described in the indictment occurred in Multnomah County.
Detectives assigned to the Gresham Police Department and Portland Police Bureau continue to investigate this matter.
Beckwith is expected to be arraigned on December 18, 2019 at the Multnomah County Justice Center, Courtroom #3 at approximately 9:30 a.m.
