Matthew Hester arraigned on allegations of solicitation and conspiracy to commit murder

Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced that 36-year-old Matthew Hester appeared in Multnomah County Circuit Court and was arraigned on a four-count indictment for allegedly soliciting and criminally conspiring to commit the murder of 34-year-old Annastasia Hester.

The indictment, which was unsealed on July 10, 2019, charges Matthew Hester with one count of solicitation to commit murder, two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit murder, and one count of hindering prosecution.

It is alleged that on or about June 10, 2016, Matthew Hester unlawfully solicited Aaron McCraw to unlawfully and intentionally commit the crime of murder; that he intentionally agreed with Aaron McCraw and Angela McCraw-Hester to intentionally cause the death of another person and that he intentionally hindered the apprehension and prosecution of Angela McCraw-Hester by concealing, altering, or destroying physical evidence that could have been used in the discovery and apprehension of Angela McCraw-Hester.

This investigation started on June 10, 2016 when Gresham Police and the East County Major Crimes Team responded to a residence in the 100-block of Southwest Eastman Parkway.

At the location, Annastasia Hester was located deceased. The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined she died of homicidal violence. The Gresham Police Department has previously released information that states Annastasia Hester was stabbed multiple times.

On October 4, 2017, Angela McCraw-Hester, 37, was arrested at her home in Pocatello, Idaho. She is currently charged with two counts of aggravated murder and one count of burglary in the first degree.

Angela McCraw-Hester’s trial is currently scheduled to start in September 2019.

An indictment is only an allegation of a crime. Both Angela McCraw-Hester and Matthew Hester are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office has no additional comment on either case as this remains an ongoing investigation.
