Mt. Angel Police Arrest Domestic Violence Suspect (Photo) - 07/20/20

On July 20, 2020 at about 5:17 AM Officers from the Mt. Angel Police Department responded to a reported Family Disturbance in the 800 block of N. Spruce St. in Mt. Angel, Oregon 97362.  Silverton Police responded to assist the Mt. Angel Officer.  The officers were told when responding that a male, the ex-boyfriend of the female residing there had broken into the home and there was a disturbance occurring inside.  Officers were allowed entry to the home by one of the victim’s children, and as officers were making their way to the sound of the disturbance in a bedroom, they heard the sound of a slide/action of a handgun being worked (racked) to insert a round of ammunition into a chamber.

Fearing for their safety and the safety of those still in the residence, the officers retreated and evacuated the other residents to a safe location outside.  Additional resources were requested and members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Keizer Police K-9 as well as additional Silverton Police Officers responded.  A perimeter of the residence was established and a shelter in place was sent out via Everbridge Notification System via METCOM for the neighborhood.

A Marion County Deputy who responded was also a Hostage Negotiator, and attempted phone contact several times with the residents to no avail.  The Deputy then began to use the public address function on a patrol vehicle and began to call to the residents to come out.  After some time had passed the male and the female exited the front door.  The male walked behind the female who was injured and officers could see that she was bleeding from the head.

Medics were called immediately, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.  The female was treated by medics from the Mt. Angel Fire District and Woodburn Ambulance.  The 32 year old female victim was then taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim are former boyfriend and girlfriend.  The suspect unlawfully entered the victim’s bedroom window and once inside assaulted her repeatedly.  A 9mm Glock Handgun was recovered at the scene.  The suspect in this case; 30 year old Gerardo Jaime Borrego II of  Salem, Oregon was transported to and was booked into the Marion County Jail for the following crimes: Assault in the Second Degree (Domestic) 163.175, Menacing (Domestic) 163.190, Kidnapping in the First Degree 163.235, Unlawful Use of a Weapon 166.220, Burglary in the First Degree 164.225, and Felon in Possession of a Weapon 166.270.

The Mt. Angel Police Department would like to thank the Silverton Police Department, The Keizer Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism and partnership in order to bring this extremely dangerous incident to a peaceful conclusion.
