August Calls For Service And Sample Of Notable Incidents (Photo) - 09/02/26

A sampling of notable calls for August;

On August 5th, a Milwaukie Motorcycle traffic enforcement officer issued a citation to a female in the Hector Campbell Neighborhod. The Officer later learned the Oregon driver’s license provided by the motorist was reported missing and determined the motorist using the license was not the one identified on it. The Officer located a photo from body worn camera footage and provided it to other officers. On August 7th, a Milwaukie Patrol Officer noticed a female, who bore a strong resemblance to the suspect, driving out of a local apartment complex and observing a traffic violation- stopped the female. The female driver, identified as Hailey Hamby, handed the officer the same fraudulent driver’s license. She was taken into custody and lodged on charges of false information to the police and identity theft. MiPD case 26-4459

On August 7th, Milwaukie Police were dispatched on a 2-vehicle accident in the 2700 block of SE Lake Rd. Officers arrived and found vehicles crashed with one inoperable and both drivers reportedly uninjured. The driver who caused the crash was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUII. Later at the Milwaukie Police Department, Officers determined the driver had an alleged blood alcohol content of .34, more than four times the legal limit. The driver was too intoxicated for jail, and declined medical transport. The driver was was issued a citation and court date being left in the care of family members. MiPD 26-4473.

On August 21st, A Milwaukie Officer and BHU clinician Trista were transporting a male voluntarily to the clarvida stabilization center on SE McBrod St. Along the way the Officer encountered a male lying in the street across the lane of travel on SE 17th Ave. with as many as 10 vehicles backed up.  When the officer activated the patrol car lights the male got up and got into a verbal altercation with one of the drivers who had stopped to help. The male was found to have a warrant and was taken to jail by another officer. The original Officer of the call and Trista then resumed transport to clarvida and completed intake. BHU and Officers later learned the male transported was successfully transitioned voluntarily to detox by the clarvida staff. In August, several residents and even non residents received a phone call stating that they missed jury duty and a bond was required to avoid arrest. The caller then instructed those folks to purchase gift card, google play and even bitcoin subsequently asking for those numbers. One victim was defrauded for over $100k. While we do not encourage store employees to intervene in a person’s purchasing matters, over the past week due to aware and concerned retail employees alerting police, three patrons were saved from continuing to pay scammers engaged in this fraud. Shout out to them reaching out for our assistance and stopping further mischief. The Milwaukie Police urges residents to hang up on these fraudsters or take extra precautions such as obtaining call back numbers or calling local authorities to verify suspicious claims like this. If you are unsure about a caller who claims to be law enforcement or the court, verify their agency affiliation (Milwaukie Police, other government enforcement agency..) and request a call back number. If they provide you with one that is not a general or dispatch number, call the general or non-emergency dispatch number for that agency and verify their purpose for the call. Scammers can be very convincing. You will not be called due to missing jury duty and required to pay a fee over the phone, period. Share this message with friends and family you believe may be vulnerable to such foul play.
