July Calls For Service Summary And Link To Stats - 08/06/26
This following are summaries of a fraction of the calls for service reported in our statistics for July.

On July 4th, An alert resident in the Ardenwald-Johnson Creek Neighborhood called police to report a running U-Haul vehicle with two unconscious occupants. Milwaukie Police contacted the occupants determining they were passed out in part to narcotic use, but regained consciousness and spoke with Police. The driver, Zachary Talbot, 36 of Portland, was found to have in his possession larger than user amounts of Xanax, Fentanyl and Methamphetamine. The passenger was questioned and released. Talbot was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on 2 counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Due to the holiday, the u-haul truck was impounded, MiPD 26-3730.

On July 9th Milwaukie Officers and staff met with officials from “Oregon Operation Lifesaver” a non-profit dedicated to train and rail crossing safety for motorists and pedestrians. Officers were recognized for their quick and decisive action during last month’s fatal train crash involving Amtrak. On July 10th, Officers were dispatched to a reported armed robbery at a convenience store in the Ardenwald neighborhood. The reporting party and shopkeeper indicated he confronted a shoplifter verbally and the female displayed a knife in a threatening manner and left the store. Officers located the female nearby identified as Rebeka Cox, 37 of Portland and took her into custody. She was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail for Robbery I, Attempt Assault III, Menacing, Theft III and Possession of a controlled substance MiPD 26-3876.
On July 15th, Officers responded to single vehicle accident near the intersection of SE Johnson Creek Blvd and SE 40th Ave. A vehicle had ran into a PGE power pole and knocked it over. Minor injuries were reported and no arrests/citations were issued. PGE restored the power and the pole in a few hours.
Later that evening, Officers responded to reports of several small fires being set in the Ardenwald and Lewelling neighborhoods which were put out easily causing minimal damage. On July 16th Milwaukie Police served an arrest and search warrant in the 9500 block of SE 44th Ct. Information about that incident can be accessed here: News Release
On July 18th, a Milwaukie Officers noticed a door which appeared unsecured on the old Shari’s restaurant building, which is supposed to be secured and empty. After ensuring the facility was unoccupied using an interior camera drone, Officers searched the building finding evidence of vandalism, theft and camping. The facility was secured and remains on extra patrol. MiPD 26-4028.
On July 21th and 28th, Milwaukie Police partnered with the North Clackamas School District to tour and in a non-dynamic manner discuss safety and active shooter scenarios at Milwaukie High and Wilbur Rowe Middle Schools, no students or staff were on site at the time.
On July 23 and 24th, Milwaukie Officers began receiving welfare checks for a young unhoused female who was shouting and walking in neighborhoods with no pants. The female was resistant to police assistance although would accept pants and food from Trista our BHU clinician. She lingered in the Lewelling and Ardenwald neighborhoods eventually sleeping in a residential yard. In a later contact, the earlier interaction proved beneficial as Trista was able to build enough rapport encouraging the female to accept assistance and coordinating transport to behavioral health specific facilities on 82nd ave.
On July 27th, Officers went on a report of a hit and run crash which occurred on SE Hwy 224 near SE Oak St. Upon arriving, Officers located the suspect vehicle a short distance away near Freeman Way on SE Lake Rd. Witnesses stated the suspect drove into the oncoming lane of travel, at SE Oak St. and SE Highway 224 through a red light, hit a truck with his vehicle and continued to drive away. A female passenger fled the vehicle and was located in a neighborhood a short distance away with multiple felony warrants. The driver, Tomas Gabaldon 28, was taken to jail on charges of hit and run and recklessly endangering. MiPD 26-4282
On July 29th, Officers were called to the downtown area on report of a disturbance. Officers learned a male, Brett Bowden 43, had struck another male with a railroad spike and also bit him in addition to striking a female at a separate but nearby location. Officers arrested Bowden lodging him on charges of Assault 4, unlawful use of a weapon and disorderly conduct MiPD 26-4214
