Vehicle vs. Pedestrian - 03/20/20

CASE: 20-2095                                       VEHICLE vs. PEDESTRIAN CRASH

DATE: 3/20/2020

On 3/20/2020 at approximately 12:25 pm, the Milwaukie Police responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on SE Railroad Avenue and SE 42nd Avenue in the City of Milwaukie, Oregon. During the investigation officers learned that the pedestrian, 40-year-old George Mallett, was struck while lying partially in the west-bound lane of SE Railroad Avenue. Mr. Mallett sustained a leg injury and  scrapes to his back and shoulders. Mr. Mallett was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, 73-year-old Anna Boelter, was operating a 2002 Toyota Sienna.  She remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Mrs. Boelter was not injured in the crash. Mrs. Boelter explained she noticed something in the dimly lit roadway, so she slowed her vehicle and tried to steer away from it.  She was unable to stop in time, after recognizing it was a person.

No citations have been issued and the investigation is continuing.
