Man Cited Following Dispute At Local Memorial Day Soccer Tournament - 05/30/23

On Monday, May 29 at about 1:45 p.m., the Medford Police Department received multiple calls reporting that there was a disturbance at a children’s tournament soccer game at North Medford High School. This game was affiliated with a large tournament occurring throughout the area and was not associated with the school. Reports to police were that there was a parent argument and that one of the involved parties was armed with a firearm.

Multiple MPD patrol units responded. Upon police arrival, Officers received multiple conflicting statements from opposing sides and were eventually able to make contact with 38-year-old Christian Quirarte, who was identified as the subject reported to be armed with the firearm. Quirarte had left the scene prior to police arrival and then returned. After interviewing multiple witnesses and ensuring that there was not public threat, Quirarte was cited and released for Disorderly Conduct. No firearm was located by responding officers.

In response to the initial report of a man with a gun, multiple fields were cleared and the games were suspended. Both teams were from out of the area and were in town for the Memorial Day weekend tournament.
