Medford Police Assist in Apartment Fire Evacuations - 07/13/18

MPD Case #: 18-14034

On July 13, 2018 at approximately 2:07pm, Medford Police officers responded with Medford Fire-Rescue to the Valley Pines Apartment complex at 649 Royal Ave. The first officer was on scene in four minutes and observed the fire had spread to two units and was threatening several others. Five Medford Officers were quick to act and entered the building to begin evacuations while Medford Fire-Rescue began to battle the blaze. The officers were able to contact several residents and communicate with Medford Fire-Rescue when the smoke grew too heavy to continue. Two people were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and one male was rescued from a third floor balcony by a Medford Fire Department ladder truck.

The quick actions by the intial officers on scene and Medford Fire-Rescue to quickly knock down this fire likely saved extensive damage to the complex and injury to residents.

Police Investigators and Medford Fire continue to investigate the cause of this fire.
