News Release
Meals on Wheels People Cancels Meals Delivery for Monday and Tuesday - 09/14/20

Homebound Seniors Will Receive Wellness Calls Due to Poor Air Quality

(Sept. 14, 2020 – Portland, OR.)  Due to poor air quality that has hovered over the Portland Metropolitan area, and to limit smoke exposure for both volunteers and particiipants, Meals on Wheels People will suspend meal delivery on Monday and Tuesday, Sept 14 and 15, 2020. Staff will make wellness calls to all homebound participants and instruct them to eat one of the meals delivered last week. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Meals on Wheels People has been delivering supplemental food to each homebound senior.

“We want to ensure the safety of both our clients and our volunteers,” said Meals on Wheels People Executive Director Suzanne Washington. “All of our meal recipients have been receiving supplemental food since the beginning of the pandemic in case of an event such as this. We will call all of them to ensure that they are safe and remind them to eat one of the meals we provided.”
