Meals on Wheels People will enhance nutrition services to older adults in Hillsboro and Cornelius beginning July 1. Meal service will expand from one day weekly to four days a week at Centro Cultural, located at 1110 N Adair in Cornelius. Centro Cultural has served Latino families with an ever-growing range of programs designed to create self-sufficient, engaged and active citizens for more than 40 years.
“We are very excited to provide this expanded service in partnership with Centro Cultural in Cornelius,” said Meals on Wheels People Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Washington. “There is a clear need for additional nutritional services for Latino elders in this community.”
The Hillsboro Center’s lease will expire at the end of June and will relocate to a new space at Sonrise Church, 6701 NE Campus Way in Hillsboro. Meals will be delivered to homebound elderly from this location on Tuesdays and Thursdays and meals will be served in the dining room Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
In Portland, Meals on Wheels People will partner with Friendly House to better serve the LGBTQ senior community by moving meal services from Marshall Union Manor to Friendly House, 1737 NW 26th Avenue. At the same time, Meals on Wheels service located in Sacred Heart Villa on SE Milwaukie will move to Moreland Presbyterian Church, 1814 SE Bybee. Those who live in Sacred Heart Villa and wish to continue to have lunch in the dining room may choose to have meals delivered and eat together. Center diners are also invited to eat lunch at one of four meal sites within a short drive of the Thelma Skelton Center: Lents, 10325 SE Holgate Blvd.; Belmont Center, 4610 SE Belmont; Cherry Blossom Center, 740 SE 106th Ave.; or Elm Court Center, 1032 SW Main Street.
“Our vision is that no senior will go hungry or experience social isolation,” said Suzanne Washington. “We are committed to being fiscally responsible with donations, community funds and government funds, while at the same time enhancing services and providing more meals to underserved populations. Making responsible choices with our resources ensures our ability to provide meals to all those who need them without instituting a waiting list.”
