On September 23rd, 2021 at approximately 5:22 p.m. a caller reported a serious single vehicle crash on Meridian Road NE near Mt. Angel Scotts Mills Road NE in northern Marion County. Prior to deputies arriving at the crash, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical responders.
During the investigation deputies determined the 2020 Kia Sorento had been traveling north on Meridian Road near Mt. Angel Scotts Mills Road before leaving the roadway, striking a tree.
The driver has been identified as Jack Mathews (79) of Molalla. Earlier in the day, Mathews had been reported to Molalla Police as a missing person.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by METCOM 911, Molalla Police Department, Mt. Angel Fire Department, Mt. Angel Police Department, and Willamette Valley Communications Center during this response.
