Marion County Sheriff's Office Wildfire Response Effort Update (Photo) - 09/10/20

Overnight, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office continued to have deputies patrolling the fire affected areas.  They were also there to be available for evacuation assistance, should that have been necessary, as well as looking for people engaged in criminal behavior. We continue to work with and stay in close communication Fire Management Officials. We continue to have concerns for the safety of people in the evacuation area due to the extreme conditions. There were no changes to existing evacuation levels overnight.  An interactive evacuation map is available at http://bit.ly/MCEvacZones.

The Marion County Emergency Operations Center is continuing to provide us with updates about resources available to those in areas impacted by evacuations.  Shelter space for those evacuated remains available at the following locations:

  • Oregon State Fairgrounds
  • Polk County Fairgrounds
  • Volcanoes Stadium

Additional information about evacuation resources can be found on the Marion County website, www.co.marion.or.us.

We have received many questions about ways for our community members to help.  Please visit the local United Way website at www.unitedwaymwv.org for a current list of donation needs. People interested in volunteering may sign up to help through www.bit.ly/MCEvacVolunteers.  Monetary donations to support evacuation efforts to can be made to the American Red Cross through their website, www.redcross.org.

We anticipate having another update available later this afternoon.
