The Marion County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety team will be adding additional patrols during the month of February. Deputies will be putting on their uniforms and taking to the roadways to detect dangerous driving behaviors like DUII, Distracted Driving and Seat Belt usage. The Sheriff's Office began its first patrols Super Bowl Sunday and will continue their patrols through the month of February.
Did you know that according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that one of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to buckle up. In 2015, seat belt use in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 13,941 lives. Many Americans understand the lifesaving value of the seat belt -- the national use rate is at 90.1 percent -- but nearly 27.5 million people still don't buckle up.
That is why deputies are asking our residents and visitors to always buckle up, put your phones down and please drive safely.
