Dayton Teacher Arrested For Sexual Contact With Minor - 07/14/22

On June 28th, 2022, the McMinnville Police Department began an investigation into an allegation of inappropriate contact between a 25-year-old male named Henry J. Claxton (of Carlton, Oregon) and a 10-year-old girl.  During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Mr. Claxton is a grade school teacher in the Dayton School District (Oregon).  It was further learned that the incident of concern took place at a non-school related location within the city of McMinnville and that the child is not a student in the Dayton School District.

On July 14th, 2022, Mr. Claxton was contacted by detectives and during the interview he admitted to having sexual contact with the child.  Mr. Claxton was arrested and lodged at the Yamhill County Jail on one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (ORS 163.427), a class-B Felony / Measure 11 offense.

There is no information at this time to indicate there are any additional victims.  Anyone that has information about this case is encouraged to contact Detective Marc Cerda (503-435-5618, marc.cerda@mcminnvilleoregon.gov).

The McMinnville Police Department was assisted during this investigation by staff at Juliette’s House.  Juliette’s House is a child abuse intervention center located in McMinnville, Oregon.  They provide prevention, intervention, and family support services to children, parents and families impacted by abuse.  They also provide a wide variety of age-appropriate abuse prevention education programs throughout the community and in schools.

Anyone that suspects a child is being physically or sexually abused is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency immediately, or you can make a report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) “CyberTipLine” at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).
