Early Morning Crash Involving Stolen Vehicle (Photo) - 04/01/22
On 4/01/2022 at 5:22 am, McMinnville Officers and personnel from the McMinnville Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Three Mile Lane near the entrance to the McMinnville Municipal Airport. The first arriving officers located the only vehicle involved in the crash, a 2017 Jeep Patriot, in a field on the north side of the roadway. The Jeep had been travelling west on Three Mile Lane when it left the roadway for an unknown reason. After leaving the roadway, it struck a driveway incline, crashed through a wooden highway sign and then a power pole, breaking the pole off at ground level and approximately halfway up the pole. The Jeep suffered heavy frontend damage and appeared to be totaled.
Officers were unable to locate the driver or any occupants from the Jeep, and it was soon learned that the Jeep had been reported stolen to the Portland Police Bureau several hours earlier. A canine tracking team was requested from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, and Officer Rapet and canine Sam arrived at the crash location to assist. A canine track from the crash location led officers north into the Evergreen Museum campus. The suspect was soon located by canine Sam hiding in a thicket of blackberries on the north side of the Space Museum. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Willamette Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. A search warrant was requested and granted for collection of blood and urine samples for the suspect driver based upon probable cause that he was driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The suspect driver is identified as Caleb Watson Sprenger, 32 of Hillsboro. It is anticipated that Sprenger will be lodged at the Yamhill County Jail on the following charges (bail amounts), once released from the Willamette Valley Medical Center:
- Multnomah County Arrest Warrant for Post-Prison Supervision Violation - No Bail
