Update To The Shots Fired Call At Albertson's On 4/28/2021 -05/13/21
On April 28th, 2021 at approximately 5:33 pm McMinnville officers were dispatched to a report of a male firing a pistol into the air in the Albertson’s parking lot, located at 615 SW Keck Dr. The caller, Colby Goodale of McMinnville, gave a location in the parking lot, suspect description, vehicle description and eventually direction of travel information to dispatch who broadcast the information to officers.
Officer located a vehicle matching the description given by Goodale near Amity. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver detained. The driver was cooperative, and no firearms were found in the vehicle. No other calls were received regarding gunshots, and several witnesses stated they had not heard anything.
This call was dispatched as an in-progress, priority call. 13 officers and deputies from the McMinnville Police Department and Yamhill County Sherriff’s office responded to this call.
Extensive follow-up was completed after this call which included checking surveillance cameras, tracking down witnesses, and checking the caller’s events with the video footage available. On May 5th, 2021, another interview was conducted with Goodale. When confronted by the investigating officer Mr. Goodale eventually admitted most of the information he gave to dispatch and officers was a lie. Although he was adamant he thought he had heard gunshots, he never actually saw anyone shooting.
Colby Goodale was arrested via Citations to Appear for Initiating a False Report and Improper use of 911.
