McMinnville Traffic Enforcement Event (Photo) - 08/14/18

August 14, 2018

City of McMinnville Traffic Enforcement Event:

     The Yamhill County Multi Agency Traffic Team (M.A.T.T.) will be conducting enhanced traffic safety enforcement patrols the afternoon and evening hours of August 24th and 25th , 2018.  These dates coincide with the “Cruising McMinnville” event scheduled for Saturday the 25th , and the increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic associated with an event of this nature.

     M.A.T.T. members will be focusing on the dangerous driving activities that lead to serious injury and fatal crashes, as well as those that increase the severity of occupant injury during a crash, e.g. failing to use seatbelts/child safety restraints.  Enforcement of dangerous traffic violations committed by pedestrians will also be a focus of this event.

The 2016 national data from NHTSA(most recent available) shows that:

  • Distraction-related deaths (3,450 fatalities) decreased by 2.2 percent;
  • Drunk-driving deaths (10,497 fatalities) increased by 1.7 percent;
