News Release
McMinnville Police Investigate Infant Death ***Updated information 12/8/17*** - 12/08/17

Media Release 12/8/2017

The McMinnville Police Department would like to provide some follow-up information to the media release from December 5, 2017. Additional information was provided to the Police Department after the first release and tips will continue to be investigated as they come in. The officers involved in the investigation are appreciative of the public's help.

Based on inquiries and information shared about this homicide investigation, it is worth noting that this tragic death was not the result of an incidental or accidental event such as bumping into a wall or rolling off a bed. To be clear, the infant's injuries were not caused by an accidental event. The infant's injuries were caused by a great deal of force exerted on the child, causing a traumatic brain injury leading to her death. The primary caregivers for the infant, as previously noted, have been identified as Clely Flores-Ramirez and David Arias, who both reside in the attached apartment at 1125 NE Irvine Street in McMinnville.

This infant's death was not caused by co-sleeping or Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (frequently referred to as SIDS).

The McMinnville Police Department would like to remind the public that there is help available for those who are experiencing difficulty with parenting young children and these are just a few of the resources available:
- Yamhill County Crisis Line 844-842-8200
- Juliette's House 503-435-1550
- Yamhill County Family and Youth 503-434-7462
- Yamhill County Department of Human Services 503-472-4634

As a last resort, a parent may leave an infant at an authorized facility in the physical custody of an employee, physician, or other medical professional working in the authorized facility if the infant is within 30 days of age and has no evidence of abuse. See ORS 418.017 for further information.

According to the Oregon Health Authority report on Childhood Fatalities in Oregon, injury was the cause of death for 86 children in 2014. Let's do what we can to make sure this doesn't happen to even one more child.

If you have information that might help in this homicide investigation, please contact the McMinnville Police Department tipline at 503-434-2337. The case remains under investigation at this time.
