News Release
Adult in Custody Death at Multnomah County Detention Center - 08/02/23

Update 8/3/2023:

The deceased adult in custody is identified as 36-year-old Clemente Pineda. He was booked into Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) on a U.S. Marshal hold on July 28, 2023. Cause of death will be determined by the Oregon State Medical Examiner. 


Initial Release 8/2/2023:On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, around 4:15 p.m., an adult in custody was found unresponsive in their cell at the Multnomah County Detention Center. Corrections deputies immediately began lifesaving measures and called for jail medical staff. Despite lifesaving efforts, the adult in custody was pronounced deceased.

As standard protocol, the East County Major Crimes Team responded to perform the death investigation, in conjunction with the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.

The individual’s identity is being withheld until next of kin notifications are completed.

Any additional inquiries should be directed to the Medical Examiner’s Office. No further comment will be made at this time.
