On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at approximately 3:40 p.m., an adult in custody (AIC) was found unresponsive in their cell at Multnomah County Inverness Jail. Corrections deputies immediately began lifesaving measures and called for jail medical staff. Portland Fire & Rescue arrived and continued medical care. Despite lifesaving efforts, the adult in custody was pronounced deceased by paramedics.
As standard protocol, the East County Major Crimes Team responded to perform the death investigation, in conjunction with the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.
The adult in custody has been identified as 31-year-old Josiah G. Pierce. Pierce was booked into MCSO custody on May 31, 2022.
