On November 13, 2021 at approximately 1445 hours deputies on proactive patrol observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the Motel 6 parking lot on NW Frontage Rd. in Troutdale. The vehicle had extensive body damage and no license plates. Deputies also noticed two adults passed out in the vehicle with drug paraphernalia in plain view.
When deputies knocked on the window to check on the occupants, the male in the driver's seat, later identified as BRANDON JAMES ANTONIO LOPEZ, age 25, woke up and immediately put the vehicle into reverse and started to turn. One of the deputies was almost crushed between the suspect vehicle and a parked car in the next parking spot over. The suspect vehicle then intentionally struck the front of the parked patrol vehicle in an attempt to escape the deputies.
The suspect vehicle became stuck on the push bumper on the patrol vehicle and the suspects refused to exit the vehicle. After several minutes of verbal commands and the arrival of a K9 at the scene, the two occupants surrendered and were taken into custody.
Deputies recovered a loaded handgun in the vehicle, along with a recently stolen catalytic converter. A short time after the arrest, a citizen contacted MCSO to report that the vehicle involved in the Motel 6 incident was a suspect in a catalytic converter theft. The citizen showed deputies security camera footage of that theft, leading to additional charges for LOPEZ.
LOPEZ was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges:
- Felony Elude x 3 warrant (Clackamas County)
- Failure To Appear / Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle warrant (Yamhill County)
- Attempt to Elude
- Attempt to Escape
- Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (two counts)
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person (two counts)
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
- Theft in the First Degree
The other occupant, identified as ALEXUS MONIQUE RAMSLAND, age 22, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges:
- Criminal Mischief in the First Degree warrant (Clackamas County)
- Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
