Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies discovered thousands of illegal pills and drugs, including large quantities of Xanax and Valium, and seized several illegal firearms during the investigation into a 41-year-old Wyatt Lazar Reed, of Portland.
On Thursday, October 28, deputies assigned to MCSO’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) executed a search warrant at the Wimbledon Court Apartments in Southeast Portland. During a search of an apartment, and a subsequent storage unit, deputies found over 6,000 tablets of Xanax, nearly 2,000 tablets of Valium and 150 suspected fentanyl pills. They also located 1,000 doses of lysergic acid diethylamide, (LSD), three pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, two pounds of marijuana, more than 100 grams of heroin, 80 grams of methamphetamine and various other illicit drugs.
Four illegal firearms were also discovered during the search.
Investigators were surprised by the sheer volume of illegal drugs that were found, making this bust one of the largest pill seizures by MCSO’s Special Investigations Unit in recent history.
Most of the drugs found by deputies were in special packaging bearing the suspect’s moniker. The suspect had also created “ready to use” meth kits, which included new smoking pipes and individual doses of meth. Some of the drugs were also hidden inside soda stash cans, a product used by dealers to conceal drug distribution and transportation in public. Reed was questioned and released, and is subject to further investigation.
This investigation originated in Gresham and was led by a Gresham Police Department detective assigned to the Special Investigations Unit. This case exemplifies the transient nature of drugs, as they are trafficked between cities, counties, states and countries. It also highlights the importance and need for law enforcement agencies to coordinate and collaborate with one another. Drug and weapons seizures, such as this, reduce gun violence and drug overdose deaths in our community.
