MCSO deputies arrest one, seize gun & drugs during high-risk traffic stop - 02/25/21

Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Special Investigations Unit arrested one man, and seized a loaded firearm and drugs following a high-risk stop Tuesday morning. At approximately 10:30 a.m. on February 23rd, deputies saw a vehicle matching the description of a suspect wanted on several warrants parked at a motel in the Wilkes neighborhood of Northeast Portland. The wanted suspect, identified as Wayde Paul Silva, 38, was known to elude police.

As deputies approached the car, they activated their lights and siren and parked their vehicles in a way to prevent Silva from escaping. Silva then reversed his vehicle and rammed a deputy’s vehicle several times in an attempt to flee. Because Silva’s window tint made it impossible for deputies to see who else was inside the car, deputies punched out a rear window. When this occurred, Silva surrendered. He was taken into custody without further incident.

On the vehicle’s front passenger seat, deputies found 10 grams of heroin and firearm with a loaded magazine (photo attached) inside of a backpack. Deputies also located 12 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Silva is charged with four counts of attempted assault in the second degree, reckless endangering and criminal mischief in the first degree.

Two members, a deputy and a sergeant, sustained minor injuries to their hands during the incident. One deputy received medical care at a local hospital. They have returned to their assignments.

The case is under investigation, and no further comment can be made at this time.
