Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies recovered the body of Jennifer Moore Saturday, January 23, 2021. Moore’s vehicle was swept away by a landslide as she drove eastbound on NE Frontage Road in Dodson on Wednesday, January 13, at approximately 1:15 a.m. In the days following the landslide, searchers identified an area in the debris flow where they believed Moore’s vehicle likley came to rest. Searchers estimated her vehicle was buried under 15 feet of mud, rock and logs. To reach the location, road crews used heavy machinery, such as front loaders and dump trucks, to remove the debris from the edges of the debris field. This work had to be performed carefully, as the mud was wet and unstable.
Once the approximate location was reached, a private contractor, Concrete GPR, helped deputies this morning verify the exact location of the car using a high-powered metal detector. Front loaders were then used to dig a path to the vehicle. Deputies, with the assistance of firefighters from the Corbett Fire District, completed the recovery.
“It’s not the outcome everyone would have hoped for,” River Patrol Unit Sgt. Steve Dangler said, “but at least at this point, it brings closure to the family and allows them to begin the grieving process.”
We want to acknowledge the Corbett Fire District for their assistance Saturday, along with the many agencies that provided resources and support since January 13.
The Oregon Department of Transportation will continue to clear and remove tons of debris from the roadway and surrounding area. The Ainsworth State Park exit and NE Frontage Road remain closed. For road information, visit TripCheck.com.
