On May 14th, 2018, at approximately 1:50 p.m. MCSO Special Investigations Unit Deputies were searching for a wanted subject in the area of SE 100th Avenue and SE Washington Street in Portland.  Deputies observed the subject parked in the Burger King parking lot.  In the process of contacting the subject, he placed his vehicle in reverse and rammed the deputy’s vehicle.  A deputy fired his weapon striking the male.  He was taken into custody and provided immediate medical attention.  The subject was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital with critical injuries.  Responding Portland officers arrived and secured the scene.  No deputies or community members were injured in the shooting.

The area of the Burger King will shut down for the duration of the on-scene investigation.  Officer involved shootings are complex investigations, therefore, additional information will be released as it is available.

The involved deputy and witness deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave as is standard procedure in these incidents.

The officer involved shooting is being investigated by the Portland Police Bureau and the East County Major Crimes Team.  Anyone with information on today’s incident are encouraged to call PPB Detective Anthony Merrill at 503-823-4033 or email anthony.merrill@portlandoregon.gov or MCSO Detective Brad Robertson at 503-988-0358 or email brad.robertson@mcso.us.
