2 car fatal MVA - 11/29/19

Marion County Fire District #1 responded to a 2-car high impact motor vehicle crash tonight around 7:30.  Arriving units found a T-bone type accident involving a full size mulit-passenger van and a full size pick up truck at the intersection of Cordon Rd Ne and Sunnyview Rd NE.  Battalion Chief Mark Bjorklund stated  a multi-patient Incident was declared resulting in 14 total patients.  13 patients were found in the van with 3 declared deceased on scene.  2 patients in critical condition, 3  stable condition and 4 with minor injuries were transported to Salem Hospital.  One patient in the van did not want to be evaluated.  The lone occupant of the full-size pick up was also transported for evaluation.    Marion County Fire District #1 was assisted by Salem Fire Department, Falck Ambulance, Marion County Sheriffs Office and Salem Police Department. Woodburn Fire District as well as Turner Fire District provided coverage during the prolonged incident.   Crisis Chaplain Agency responded on scene to help families as well as emergency crews involved.  Response consisted of  7 ambulances, 2 Fire Engines, 1 Heavy Rescue and a Battalion Chief.  The crash is under investigation by Marion County Sherriff and Salem Police crash reconstruction teams.

This is the second fatal MVA in the same amount of hours for Marion County Fire Distrcit.  Earlier tonight a single car rear ended a full size farm implement tractor resulted in the fatality of a single occupant driver in the 6400 block of Lakeside Dr NE.  That incident is also under investigation with Marion County Sherriff's department.
