Today (6/9/2019) at 7:38PM Marion County Fire District 1 was dispatched to the report of a car fire on I-5 north bound at mile post 263. Initial responding units were advised the vehicle was a full size pickup towing a boat and the dispatch center was receiving multiple calls reporting the fire. The first responding engine reported a smoke column from 2 miles out prompting a water tender (tanker) to be added to the response for additional water supply. The first arriving engine reported a fully involved pick up on the right shoulder. The boat had been unhooked from the pickup and all occupants were out of the vehicle. The engine company extinguished the fire.
Marion County Fire District 1 responded to the incident with 1 Engine, 1 Water Tender and 1 Battalion Chief and was assisted with traffic control by Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Emergency Response personnel. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is believed to be a mechanical malfunction.
