Marion County jury returns guilty verdicts in connection with a 2018 shooting that left one man dead - 08/03/23

On August 3, 2023, after an 8-day jury trial, a Marion County Jury found Lucias Rashaud Harris (9/16/1979) guilty of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The convictions result from an April 14, 2018, shooting at 444 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, Oregon. The victim, Tyler Austin Longacre (5/5/1996), was located nearby, at 421 Lancaster Dr. NE, having succumbed to at least two gunshot injuries. Mr. Longacre was not armed at the time of his death.

The case was investigated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Today the jury determined that Harris shot and killed the victim after the victim fled from the 444 Lancaster shooting incident. The jury further found that Harris was illegally possessing a handgun at the time due to Harris being a convicted felon at the time of the shooting.

A conviction for Murder in the Second Degree carries a presumptive life sentence, with a mandatory minimum 25-years served before parole eligibility.

Marion County Circuit Court Judge Jodie A. Bureta presided over the trial. The State was represented by Drew Taylor and BJ Park. Sentencing before Judge Bureta will be set at a future date.
