School Closure Information -03/14/20
Dear Parents and Guardians,
By direction of Governor Inslee, and to help our state and nation combat the spread of the coronavirus, Longview Public Schools is closing all of its schools starting Monday, March 16, through Friday, April 24.
We take any decision to close schools very seriously, recognizing that closures can pose difficulties for families and disrupt children’s education. Please review the following important information:
- School buildings: School buildings will be open from 8am to noon on Monday, March 16 for students to collect any personal items they choose.
- Athletics/ Activities: Effective immediately and throughout the closure, ALL athletics and morning/afternoon/evening and weekend school activities will be canceled.
- Food Services: For students in need of breakfast and lunch, Longview Public Schools will provide food throughout the closure. The district will inform families shortly about the locations and distribution times.
- Child Care for children of medical professionals and first responders: The district is working with community partners to determine how best to provide childcare for the children of medical professionals and first responders. More information will be forthcoming.
- Make-up Days: The district anticipates the school year will be extended through June 19, 2020. Our high school graduation date will remain the same.
- We will continue to provide updates on this rapidly developing situation in several ways:
- Email to parents and families via Skyward
- The district website at longviewschools.com
- Social media at facebook.com/longviewschools
Thank you for your support and patience as we address this unprecedented situation. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our students, their families, our staff members, volunteers and the community.
Sincerely,
Dan Zorn, Superintendent
Longview Public Schools
