Natural Gas Leak Closes 15th Ave. and Neighboring Businesses
Longview, WA. Longview Fire and C2FR were dispatched early Wednesday morning to the report of a natural gas line that had been cut during an excavation project along the 1100 block of 15th Avenue. Construction workers on scene stated they had cut a natural gas line while doing a paving project, and there was an active leak coming from the work site. Dispatch notified fire crews that the business had been evacuated and contractors would be standing by for the fire departments arrival.
Longview Fire Crews arrived and positioned a couple hundred feet upwind of the incident, closing Northbound 15th Avenue and both alley entrances to secure the 1100 block. Crews made access to the scene where they used air monitors to determine the scope and size of the incident. Local businesses were evacuated, and Longview Public Works provided traffic control signs to deny entry to the entire block. Cascade Natural Gas arrived and secured the leak by digging a trench in the alley and crimping the line with special tools. “The Fire Department would like to thank Cascade Natural Gas and Longview Public Works for their quick response to mitigate the incident, stated Battalion Chief Matt Amos.” “The cooperation from The Pro Shop, Pawn Shop and More, Smart & Fit Fitness Studio, Zay’s Tattoo, Lj’s Country Barber Shop, Tenile’s Hair Design, Heartland Hair Studio, Erupted Vapor Longview, and Teriyaki Spice also contributed to the overall success of the incident, he also stated.”
Impacted business were allowed to reopen approximately two hours from the initial dispatch. There are no injuries to report. Note there was a major fire in the City of Kelso at the exact same time requiring both fire agencies to work together to mitigate both incidents.
